This course is
open to singers and players of renaissance type instruments: vilos, recorders,
curtals, sackbuts and cornetti. This weekend we will concentrate on some of the
best and most descriptive polyphonic settings to the psalms. These ancient
poems were composed to be sung, and span the gamunt of human emotion from
elation to despair. See how the renaissance composers used their skills to
bring their poems alive. They found them inspiring. So will you.
Not
suitable for beginners. Sight-reading skills essential.
A great opportunity for intermediate players in a
medium sized ensemble.

This enjoyable and highly
participatory course is designed to help you find your voice and learn how to
project it with ease and confidence. You may be new to singing or even believe
that you cant, or you may be an established singer of any genre who
wishes to develop greater confidence. In a fun and supportive atmosphere you
will have the opportunity to experiment with vocal sounds and will be shown the
open-throated calling technique used my most styles of professional singers.
Once learned, this calling sound is powerful, effortless and energising. You
will also be taught how to sing from the heart and learn to move others with
your song. This is an active course for which you will need to be reasonably
fit.
The NRC offers a relaxed, supportive and friendly
environment for recorder players of all abilities to make music. A large
variety of repertoire from Medieval to Minimalism will be studied in
ensembles including Recorder Orchestra, Chamber Recorder Orchestra, Easy
Orchestra, Multi Choir, Renaissance Band, Trio Sonatas and one to a part
playing. There is a large choice of tutors and music in each playing
session, allowing you to tailor the course to suit your individual
interests.

This weekend is aimed
at competent players of the recorder, who are good sight-readers and can play
both F and C instruments. It is essential that you are able to hold a part
alone. Players will be divided into one-to-a-part groups to work on music of
their own choice. A large music library is provided, but participants are
welcome to bring their own music to share with the group. There will be
'permanent groups' who meet several times and 'ad hoc' groups organised by the
tutor, so that players get to meet each other. On Saturday night there will be
a large session where a multi-choir piece will be conducted. The course ends
with a short concert for players who wish to perform - and a final piece for
everyone.
