The 2008-2009 season starts on Monday 22nd of
September. We meet weekly with a conductor from September to June on Monday evenings, 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in
Augustine United Church, 41-43 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh and also occasionally for a
special event on Saturday afternoon, including a "Playing Day" with a visiting
conductor from the national Society. Visitors from other branches are welcome, and
prospective new members can try us out for a few meetings before committing themselves to
join. Each season we have a Saturday meeting with a visiting conductor from the national SRP. On Saturday 1 November 2008 this will be Ross Winters from Kent, a distinguished performer who teaches recorder at Birmingham Conservatoire and elsewhere. One-to-a-part playing is also encouraged. One-to-a-part groups meet separately, usually in each others' homes. Music is normally provided for playing at meetings, and can only be borrowed if signed for in the book. There is a large amount of music suitable for borrowing by individuals and small groups. Enquiries should be addressed to the Librarian. Tea Rota. Two members are required each week to make the tea and coffee and clear away. Please see the list in the church hall, and make changes if the dates allocated do not suit you. Tea/coffee and biscuits cost 50p. Scottish Recorder Orchestra. This orchestra affiliated to the SRP rehearses monthly in Stirling, and gives public performances. It also has residential weekends and collaborations with foreign orchestras. Full details are at the orchestra website, including a concert, jointly with the Dortmund Recorder Consort, in the Reid Concert Hall, Edinburgh on Sunday 5 October 2008.
