York Guildhall BranchIntroductionThis branch of the Society of Recorder Players took its name from the York Guildhall where we first met when we started in 1993. Please telephone our Secretary to let us know that you'd like to join us for a free trial first visit. (See below for contact details.) For the 2008-2009 season starting in September 2008, we will continue to meet on the afternoons of the first and third Saturdays of each month in Skelton Village Hall from 2 pm to 5 pm. There will be, however, no meeting on the 3rd January. See the Programme below.
Directions to Skelton Village Hall. For Skelton, take the A19 Thirsk Road at the Rawcliffe roundabout on the York (North) outer ring road. Turn second right at the Blacksmith's Arms pub and follow St Giles Road through the village. The village hall is on the corner of the third right-hand turnoff. There is free parking in the hall's car park or on Moorlands Road. Please do not park on Brecksfield (Lane) or on The Green. Our meetings start with gentler, easier, pieces. If you are a novice recorder player, why not come along to join us? The best way to improve the standard of your consort playing is to join in with the easier pieces at first, and attempt what you can of some of the harder pieces. We were all beginners once! After a short break (tea, coffee, fruit squash or juice and biscuits for 20 pence - all as available), we continue with general ensemble playing. Visitors are always welcome - we make no charge for the first visit. Music is provided, but please bring a music stand if possible. We invite informal applications from experienced recorder players who would like to choose music for, and direct, meetings of our branch. Officers of the branch CHAIRMAN Programme 2008 - 2009Please contact us to confirm the time and place of any of these meetings.
Subscriptions 2008-9The Society's financial year runs from the 1st September to the 31st August. The AGM will decide whether the prices should change for the 2008-9 year, but here are the 2007-2008 branch subscription rates:
We do not charge for a first visit to the branch. Members who join well into a new financial year are not asked to pay the national subscription. The national subscription includes the postal delivery of quarterly copies of The Recorder Magazine. |
