Congratulations to Tom Ridout , sax and recorder player who played in the final of BBCYM Jazz Award last week. Whilst studying at the Junior Royal Academy, he was able to combine the Jazz course alongside recorder lessons and ensemble with Barbara Law, thanks to the support of the Walter Bergmann Fund.
Tom maintained his love of the recorder as he continued onto the Jazz course at RAM performing on recorder on many occasions – including at Ronnie Scotts. He played his final number in his competition set on recorder and talks about the instrument and its role in his Jazz career in the BBC broadcast of the final in May. Bravo to the first recorder finalist in BBCYM Jazz!
