An Elizabethan Concert - Music Song and Poetry

Brancepeth Castle, near Durham

Tickets £12.50

Jeni Melia (soprano), Wilfred Foxe (lute) and The Lachrimae Consort – part of a series of events to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the Rising of the North, in which this spectacular castle played a key role.

The six members of The Lachrimae Consort play the wonderful repertoire of “broken” consort music popular in Elizabethan and Jacobean times. Written for the exotic combination of treble viol, bass viol, recorder, cittern, bandora and lute, this music is some of the earliest specifically “orchestrated “ for different types of instrument – bowed, blown and plucked.

Tickets include canapés, wine and an exhibition, and must be pre-booked – numbers are limited.

Tickets available from Brancepeth Archives (0191 378 0974), or from the tea room at the castle.
