If you already know the fingering of a 12th (C to G or F to C), can read music and play in tune and time, this course will develop your technique and musicianship further. Please bring your own instrument(s). Continues to module 2 next term.

Recorder Consorts and Ensemble

If you are already experienced in recorder ensemble playing, join this small, friendly group to look at developing consort playing skills in Renaissance, Baroque and contemporary styles.

Advanced Recorder Consorts and Ensemble
15.45-17.45 on Mondays
Recorder Ensemble for experienced players. This term, the group will focus on Renaissance and 20th-century repertoires.

Recorders: Advanced Technique
11.00-13.00 on Sundays
This course covers advanced recorder techniques for players with at least two years of experience. You will learn how to double tongue and use a wider range of fingerings and articulation, as well as working on expressive techniques such as vibrato. The course will include a mixture of technical work and exercises, as well as advanced pieces and some ensemble repertoire.

We are a small group of adults, playing a wide range of music in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere under the guidance of tutor Julie Dean. As this is an intermediate/advanced level ensemble, a reasonable standard of technique and sight-reading is expected, together with the ability to play one-to-a-part. Players play various recorder sizes. Why not come and join us on Monday evenings during term time.

The recorder is wonderfully fun to play, and this group aims to revive our enjoyment of an easy yet undervalued instrument. Even if you haven’t picked one up for years, come along and enjoy rediscovering your skills.

We play a wide range of music from early music to The Beatles.  Some previous experience of playing and reading music necessary, but don’t worry if you are rusty!

We meet at the Queens Park Centre and Limelight Theatre in Aylesbury.

This is a thriving group with 25 members from a wide area, some travelling by train from Bath, Yatton, and Tiverton.  We meet on term-time Tuesday mornings in St Michael’s Church, Stoke Gifford from 10am to 12noon.  We perform at community events, and have guest conductors to run workshops.

Play, passion, performance! At CMA, 500 young musicians aged 4-18 play music together every weekend in term time. There are progressive classes for all levels of recorder playing:

  • Springers Recorders for year 2 beginners (Saturday, 11.30am-12.15pm)
  • Recorder Racers for year 3-5 beginners/improvers (Saturday, 10.30-11.15am)
  • Junior Recorders for year 3-5 elementary players (Saturday, 10.30-11.15am)

  • Recorder Consort for year 9-13 advanced players (Saturday, 9-10am)

The Young Rockorders

We meet once a week: Thursday 4.30-5.30 at St Asaph VP infants school, St Asaph, North Wales. We welcome children aged from 8 upwards with some previous experience of playing the instrument. There is a £4 session fee.

We currently have members playing garklein, sopranino, descant, treble, tenor, and bass but are looking particularly for good descant players and trebles/tenors. We play popular pieces, film and TV themes as well as classical and baroque music. The children are involved in the running of the group, making suggestions about music choices, concert venues etc… and most recently decided on the name for our group!
