Inspired by the sights, senses and sounds of nature, William Byrd’s famous setting of this favourite ditty of the English Renaissance forms a backdrop to a feast of feathery frottole and leafy madrigals. Featuring the remarkable birdsong chanson L’Alouette by Janequin, intricate virelais of the 14th Century Ars Nova, Elizabethan consort music, virtuosic divisions from the 17th Century Division Flute, Vivaldi’s chamber concerto La Pastorella, and even a little spice of jazz and 19th Century Russian song!
