Adrian Chandler and La Serenissima return to Stamford with a programme entitled “A European Community”. The title reflects how the Italian baroque style spread throughout Europe in the early eighteenth century. Telemann and Graupner, both Germans, were heavily influenced by the Italian concerto, of which Vivaldi is perhaps the most prominent exponent. But the style also spread because many Italian musicians forged careers living in the cultural centres of Europe: Castrucci made his career in London as the leader of Handel’s opera orchestra, and Brescianello worked in Stuttgart as the Oberkapellmeister to the Duke of Wurttemberg, but both composed in their native style.
We are particularly delighted to welcome Tabea Debus back to Stamford. On her previous visit in 2017 she demonstrated her extraordinary virtuosity on the recorder, and we look forward to another wonderful evening of her playing.
