This four week lockdown course will be an introduction to medieval music and an exploration of its connections with folk music. When I play music from many hundreds of years ago, I don’t see rigid historical artefacts, but the same kind of fascinating and catchy tunes, enchanting modal melodies and driving rhythms as I do when I play contemporary folk music. This course will focus mainly on instrumental music, but there will also be opportunities to sing for those who wish. We will learn some incredibly beautiful ancient melodies and learn how to bring them back to life, covering ornamentation and arrangement ideas. The course will be taught by ear, but the written notation will be handed out as well as recordings of the tune to help you practice.Contact: / 07986572254
