Throughout the ages, music and magic have been intrinsically linked. Join award-winning recorder quartet Palisander, for a theatrical, multimedia performance. Featuring music by Tartini, JS Bach and Hildegard von Bingen, alongside renaissance consort music and contemporary works, the performance explores the historic relationship between music and the magical spectrum: including elements of mathematics, philosophy, nature, religion and the occult. Historical accounts and medieval spells are paired with sensitive visual projections and choreography for a unique event, not to be missed!
OPTIONAL PRE-PERFORMANCE ONLINE WORKSHOP!
Time : 14:30 BST
Palisander is renowned for its high quality, imaginative education work. Pitched for intermediate recorder players, this practical Zoom workshop will cover the three main genres of recorder playing: Renaissance, Baroque & Modern. Sheet music will be sent in advance and the pieces will then feature in the show in a ‘play along’ format, for you to join in with from home!
This event is made possible by a grant awarded by the Continuo Foundation.
PALISANDER
Palisander prides itself on presenting imaginative, historical programmes with a wide range of repertoire; performing largely from memory, on recorders from 6 inches to 6 feet tall. Devising their own choreography, as well as writing new compositions and unique arrangements for the ensemble, the group’s members are keen ambassadors for the recorder’s versatility. This is brought to life in the exciting theatrical concerts, for which Palisander is known internationally.
