The Historically Informed Summer School (HISS) combines and connects early, folk and traditional music.
Offering a variety of classes, taught by an eleven-strong team of outstanding tutors, the course caters for a wide variety of different instruments plus voices.
HISS creates the opportunity for participants to have focused, specialist input on their main study instrument/voice, as well as allowing time to explore and experiment on other instruments through an assortment of ‘pick and mix' sessions.
For 2023 we are delighted to welcome back Rebecca Austen-Brown and Mary Tyers as our dynamic recorder tutors.
Rebecca’s progressive class ‘Passamezzo’ will study her own arrangement of William Byrd’s wonderful keyboard variations on ‘John come kiss me now’, plus a wealth of other passamezzi from a variety of traditions.
Mary’s progressive class ‘William Byrd’s Folk’ celebrates Byrd’s 400th Anniversary by learning the original folk tunes from which he composed keyboard variations, enjoying the ballads, and playing transcriptions for recorder consort of Byrd’s variations.
