We are delighted to welcome Lyndon Hilling as our Pastoral Day visiting conductor.

Lyndon is well-known as a composer for the recorder and will conduct the day featuring a varied programme of works.

The day will run from 10.00 - 4.30 with a break for lunch. Tea/coffee will be available. Please bring a music stand and a packed lunch.

Witherslack Parish Hall is accessible with ramped access and is level inside the hall. There is parking at the hall and adjacent. If you need advice on public transport, taxis or access to the hall, please email .

The North American Virtual Recorder Society (NAVRS) present the Flanders Recorder Duo (FR2) for a William Byrd Playing Meeting .

World-renowned musicians, Tom Beets and Joris Van Goethem, will lead the NAVRS monthly Playing Meeting in an exploration of William Byrd’s famous six-part Pavan and Galliard. The Pavan consists of three contrapuntal strains, starting with a hint of melancholy and evolving in an elaborate and sublime manner. As is customary, the Pavan is paired with a Galliard in triple meter.

Tom and Joris promise to take participants through their paces to understand the music and make a beautiful sound.

Joris Van Goethem is an internationally renowned flautist, recorder player, teacher, arranger, and conductor of recorder orchestras. He is well known as an enthusiastic and skilled teacher and gives master classes and teaches early music courses in all corners of the world. Tom Beets has delighted audiences and pupils at venues around the world. Tom teaches in music schools and leads masterclasses and workshops across Europe, the UK and the USA. He is a director of the largest early-music and recorder course in Europe and Chairman of the Recorder Summer School. As a member of the Flanders Recorder Quartet, he was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award of the American Recorder Society. Tom also plays viola da gamba.

The North American Virtual Recorder Society (NAVRS) is an online community of recorder players. Celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026, NAVRS’s 300 members come from North America, Europe, and Asia. The annual membership fee is $20 a year and Playing Meetings are $15 per session. Interested and curious players can attend the first Playing Meeting for free. Skill-building workshops are a member benefit and available for $20 each. There is an active Facebook group and members receive playback recordings of all purchased sessions that they can replay on-demand for four weeks or at their convenience for sessions they can’t attend.
