Music from the 16th, 17th & 18th century inspired by Awe and Wonder. Presented by the multi-grant-winning early music ensemble Sounds Historical.

St Nicholas' Church,

Dersingham, Norfolk, PE31 6GZ

18:30

£26.95 / U18 free

Through evocative music of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, Sounds Historical explore the wonderful and awe-inspiring aspects of life which are just as resonant today as they were for our ancestors – from mythology to mathematics, astrology to astronomy, and love, both romantic and religious.

Sounds Historical are a specialist early music ensemble who perform on an exciting array of beautifully crafted copies of period instruments. Heidi Fardell (recorders, flutes & percussion), Alison Kinder (viols & recorders), Lynda Sayce (lutes, theorbo, recorders & flutes) and Mary Tyers (recorders, flutes & voice) love to chat to their audiences, introducing the music and their instruments as the programme unfolds. In their latest programme, the recorder is the star of the show – with appearances from Renaissance models, G altos, Transitionals and Voice Flutes, as well as the ‘standard’ Baroque recorder that we all know and love.

Featuring rarely heard pieces composed by the famous astronomers Galileo and William Herschel and the rigorously crafted yet emotionally charged work of J. S. Bach and Henry Purcell, join Sounds Historical as they travel to the underworld with Charpentier and celebrate mythology with Telemann. Meet a rare instrument – the Orpharion, and hear about ‘Chester’s Monstrous Fish’. Even the inimical British weather has its place in this programme!

Do come and join us as we celebrate Our Wonderful World!
