Frans Brüggen, a vice-president of the Society and a major figure in the recorder world, died on August 13, 2014 aged 79. As reported in his obituary in the Daily Telegraph, he was recorder player, conductor and musicologist who brought the recorder out of the classroom and into the concert hall as a serious musical instrument.
