Music for 2009/2010
NB None of this music needs to be purchased by you (unless you wish to buy it privately) as it has all been ordered for the library or downloaded and sufficient parts should be available for any of the others . You are invited to borrow parts for practice - please sign the list which will be provided each month and if you can’t make a rehearsal PLEASE get a friend to bring it along if it will be needed for the following month.

Monteverdi (1567-1645) : Oimè il bel viso. SSATB. One of his fine Madrigals. Not difficult but expressive - needs good phrasing inspired by the words. Downloaded at Jean Riordan’s suggestion from the Werner Icking archive. Score and parts are free. If you want to download your own go to http://icking-music-archive.org/ByComposer/Monteverdi.php and scroll down to Sesto Libro di Madrigali, 1614 No. 8 Oime il bel viso

J.S. Bach: Fugue no. 4 from the Well Tempered Clavier. Transposed from the original key of C# minor! A T B B B (or CB). Downloaded from Lovemusic, again at Jean’s suggestion. If you want to download your own score or parts go to http://www.geocities.jp/loverecder/#Well It’s the third item on that page.

Palestrina: A Beata Trinitas and Victoria: Gaude maria Virgo. S S A T B Fine motets - ordered for the library (Oriel 261) so plenty of parts and an extra score available, but should you want to buy your own go online to http://oriellibrary.ieasysite.com/index.html and scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Quintets” in the bottom green bar and then scroll down to Palestrina on the new page that appears.

Wilbye: Lady, When I Behold… A A T T B GB/Contra Excellent English madrigal. From the John Allen collection. Scores and parts will be available (can easily be redone up a tone for SSATB)

Purcell: Chacony. S A T B Not the expensive Faber version which has a high tessitura, but transposed down a perfect fourth into D minor - so much easier and pleasanter to play. Another download from the ‘LoveSchubert’ website. If you want your own score and other parts then go to http://www.geocities.jp/loverecder/#Purcell Scroll down to Henry Purcell, it's the fourth item there.

Pepusch: Quintet in F. A A T T B+ keyboard. Excellent baroque chamber music and very playable. Schott Edn. 10688.Still trying to get extra parts-only from Schott. Some members already have this - please let me know if you have.

Felix Mendelssohn (arr. Paul Clark): Andante con moto (‘The Pilgrim’s march’) from Symphony No. 4, Op. 90 (‘Italian’). Sop, SATTB(BG,Contra). Paul calls this an ambitious piece (still in manuscript) and fairly lengthy - its certainly an arrangement we can enjoy working at over the year.

Modern(ish) pieces.
Andrew Challinge
r: Mirror Ball (SATSAB) . composed for the 2008 SRP National Festival. Enough scores and parts available already among the membership. Not as difficult as some of his other pieces. Available to buy from Montem Music at £8 if you want your own - go to:- http://www.montemmusic.com/catalogue.shtml

Philip Thorby: An Irish Suite. SATB. Lively and enjoyable. Ordered for our library from Oriel (OL249) so plenty of parts will be available. If you want to buy your own set - go to http://oriellibrary.ieasysite.com/rmenu.html and click on “Quintets” in the bottom green bar and then scroll down to Thorby on the new page that appears.

Greg McKernon: Jazz Triptych. SATB Previously rehearsed in 1995 and 1997 so sufficient members will have this. Not for plenary sessions but if you wish to buy it’s available at around £9 from Boosey & Hawkes and Schott. Can be bought online with a £2 discount at http://www.borders.co.uk/book/jazz-triptych-for-recorder-quartet/1066172/
