Lead conductor Joris van Goethem

The SRP National Festival is about bringing recorder players together to make music, and the most important parts of the festival are the group and massed playing sessions. The smaller group sessions are graded according to ability, whilst the massed playing sessions offer an opportunity for everyone at the festival to perform together. We’re delighted that Marg Hall, Graham Hamlett and John Hawkes will be bringing their new compositions to the group playing sessions.

Joris van Goethem of the Flanders Recorder Quartet will conduct the Saturday massed playing session in a new piece by Rosemary Robinson commissioned for the festival, and the festival closes on a local note with massed playing of a concerto by the Newcastle baroque composer Charles Avison, conducted by Mary Tyers, Festival Director and Musical Director of the Durham SRP Branch.
