Return to Africa I chose this title because the backing illustrates a musical full circle. Latin American music derives its flavour from the blending of African and Hispanic musical cultures. Since the 1960s Cuban musical styles have been absorbed back into African popular music. So this backing features Cuban rhythms play on traditional African drums and the balafon (traditional xylophone) replaced by its very close Western relation, a marimba.
