Salsa Alto Salsa music is a blend of Cuban dance styles, Son, Cha-cha, Mambo and elements of Latin Jazz originated by Puerto Rican musicians living in New York during the 1960s. SALSA is Spanish for “sauce”. ALTO is the member of the recorder family this tune was written for. As the bright tempo of the backing suggests, this is an energetic dance. The slower tempo of the rehearsal track is closer to Cuban SON.
