Sicilienne from Pelléas & Mélisande. Gabriel Fauré. Modern jazz harmony owes a huge debt of gratitude to the compositions of Fauré, Debussy and Ravel among others, so I hope the ghost of one of my favourite French masters will not be offended by my slightly altering his beautiful tune. After all the rhythm of a Sicilienne is almost the same as that of a jazz waltz and I had to squeeze it into the treble’s range.
