Our current director, Terry Smurthwaite, is retiring from his role as Music Director for
Cumbria Recorder Society after 5 successful years, from January 2027.

We are looking for a new Music Director/ Conductor from January 2027 to lead and
develop the Recorder Society.

Based in Witherslack, Grange over Sands , Cumbria Recorder Society is an active
branch with a large catchment area, attracting regular members and visitors from
across the north-west. We meet monthly on the third Saturday afternoon of the
month at Witherslack Parish Hall, with a break in August and September, with an
average of 30 players attending. Our programme usually includes 2 playing days,
and we also host workshops supported by the SRP.

We are looking for a Musical Director / Conductor to work with the committee and to
develop the group. It is a mixed ability group. We aim to provide a supportive
environment for all, while having a stimulating programme for experienced players.
We hold a music library, which can be used as a resource. We are happy to discuss
financial arrangements with candidates.

We also wish to develop a panel of visiting conductors to conduct on an occasional
basis.

For more information or to express an interest, please contact Sue Gill, Branch
Chair, or Rona Courtney, Secretary, on
