Our first SRP
National Festival to be held in Wales will take place in Monmouth from March 22nd-24th 2024. It is being organised by musical advisor Caroline Jones with her group, Black Mountains Recorders. Festival treasurer is accountant Mirjam Morat and Wales SRP are generously supporting us.


Held at Haberdashers
Monmouth Schools, Hereford Road, Monmouth, NP25 5XT, we are benefitting from their excellent facilities and accommodation.

SRP’s annual general meeting will take place on Friday 22nd March at 4.30pm. AGM attendees may arrive from 4.00pm.  

General Festival registration is from 5.00pm. Dinner will be at 6.30pm followed by massed playing at 8.00pm and an open bar.

Saturday registration is from 9.00am and at 10.00am we begin with a new work by John Hawkes, Cynulliad Mynwy (Monmouth Gathering), written especially for the Festival. It includes an optional part for Welsh Harp that will be played by local musician Dian Winter.

Our conductors are: Alyson Lewin, Ann Marshall, Anne Martin, Caroline Jones, Delyth Holland, Helen Hooker, Kate Allsop, Lyndon Hilling, Mary Tyers, Naomi Wellings, Pam Smith, Petrina Lodge, Ruth Burbidge, Sandra Foxall, Sheila Richards, and Steve Marshall.

We will have a range of shops including Recorder Music Mail, Early Music Shop, Hawthorns Music and Willobie Press.

Saturday evening there is a Twmpath (Ceilidh) led by Allan Yn Y Fan. Tickets are £13.00 and can be bought when you book for the Festival.

Sunday, we continue playing a wide range of music concluding with the report from our AGM and a final massed playing session before we bid, Hwyl to our friends.

Oh, and don’t forget to bring your swimming costume – there is a lovely indoor swimming pool for us to enjoy! Open from 7.00am-9.00am Saturday and Sunday, free of charge for our B&B guests.

Accommodation. Bed and breakfast accommodation is on-site. Friday and Saturday nights cost from a total of £80.00 for both nights. Due to high demand, an additional 40 single ensuite rooms have been made available at the sixth-form block, Buchanan House, 20 minutes’ walk or a short drive from the festival site.

Travel. Monmouth is on the main A40 and has excellent road links. Bristol and Cardiff airports are not far and Newport is a main railway station.

*If you are travelling by train, please tell us when you plan to arrive so that we can arrange a joint taxi or minibus to take you from Newport to Monmouth.

**If travelling by car please share transport with a friend as parking at the school is limited.
